Letter of the day: 'Slumdog Millionaire' stars need time to adjust to freedom

Last update: November 2, 2009 - 6:35 PM

When I read that the trustees for the children who starred in "Slumdog Millionaire" were threatening to take away their trust fund (Star Tribune, Oct. 29), I was disgusted. The two young children worked for and rightfully earned their money for their trust funds. Though both Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and Rubina Ali have been missing school, I wonder how people didn't expect that to happen? In the past, these two poor children did not have enough money to attend school. They lived in the slums, so education was not a priority for them. I'm sure they are still making an adjustment to their new lives. It will take time, but they will eventually grow more accustomed to their new life of being freed from the slums.
