Netlets for Oct. 6: Enough dissing of the Dome

Last update: October 6, 2009 - 5:52 PM

Enough dissing of the Dome

I've moved a bunch of times in my life. I always looked forward to the new home, but never found it necessary to spend a lot of time bad-mouthing the old one. The Twins TV mouthpieces have spent several seasons talking about what a terrible place the Metrodome is, but some of us have loved it and love it still.

The Metrodome has been the home for the greatest moments in Twins history. So long, Metrodome! I'm going to miss you.

STEVE MCKINLEY, EAGAN

•••

Hats off to the persons involved with putting together the farewell ceremony at the Metrodome. I watched a taped version of the program that was shown on Fox Sports Net. It was great! It was a blast reliving all of those wonderful memories.

MIKE DROOGER, EDGERTON, MINN.

It's the Vikings' turn? Says who?

If the legislators of Minnesota even dare to entertain the notion that the people pay for yet another stadium for a really wealthy guy, they had better remember that eventually they all will be up for reelection and their votes are public record.

The even glimmer of talk about paying for yet another stadium during a time when people are being taxed out of their homes, the jobless rate is sky high, schools, police and fire etc are all suffering, our environment is suffering, is ludicrous and immoral.

Legislators, know that we are watching you.

NANCY HONE, ST. PAUL

Wipers, and your attention please

We've had about a week of rain. The question that begs to be asked remains: What part of "When your windshield wipers are on, turn on your headlights" don't YOU understand?

It's the easiest thing to do while driving. Well that, and using a turn signal. It's amazing how many people who can't do one, can't do the other. However, many are quite adept at texting, eating, drinking and frivolous phone chatter. No wonder people die.

M. MOEN, BURNSVILLE

Clinic comparisons

Your paper has had several articles about people doing cost comparisons of medical procedures [flu shots] and being astounded at the differences. One of the reasons that health care has gotten so expensive is that it is the one area of goods and services in which the consumer has no idea of what things cost!

What if a campaign were started among citizens to know the costs of their medical procedures? What if the paper published comparative costs as it now does with gasoline stations? My bet is that costs would begin to go down!

FLOYD KELLER, BAYPORT
