Letter of the day: Some are saying that Favre has done the purple state a favor

Last update: July 30, 2009 - 10:13 AM

Cheers to Brett Favre! He finally did the best thing for all of us. Unfortunately, he didn't do it in consideration of anyone but himself, which is typical Favre. Now the Vikings should get back to contending and leave Favre in the dust. I can once again cheer for the team!

BARB CARLSON, SHOREVIEW

Brett Favre may have given the Vikings the word that he plans to remain retired. Let's not kid ourselves. The Vikings do not have a NFL-caliber quarterback on their roster. Every incomplete pass, interception or three-and-out will move the phone closer to being picked up by Brad or Zygi. If the hierarchs are serious that the Favre saga is behind them, it's time to say so. Viking fans, be prepared for a long season of blackouts and poor quarterback play.

A slow-to-decide guy named Brett All summer and spring said, "Not yet!" Well, turns out his liking Is not for the Vikings, And so his fans blurt, "[epithet]"

I grew up in Appleton, Wis., which is 30 miles south of Green Bay, and was more than a little distressed about the idea of a purple No. 4 . It wouldn't have been right, like cats and dogs sleeping together. I was prepared to show my disgust by burning everything I had that was green, starting with my lawn. My neighbors are more than a little relieved.

Hey, Vikings. Here's an idea-- forget Favre, sign Vick!
