Thank you for your recent reporting on the state of our food system. At Right To Know Minnesota, we offer one strategy among several that readers can take to vote with dollars and sense about how our food should get to our tables.

We are working with state legislators and other officials to have genetically engineered foods labeled so that people can make a choice one way or another.

The dominant food system has thrived by hiding in the darkness. The fact that the corporations spent more than $68 million to defeat two citizen-led ballot initiatives speaks further to their control of consumer decisionmaking. They spent more money to defeat transparency than any other ballot measure in the history of Washington state.

Transparency is key to democracy, and no matter where you stand in regard to genetically modified organisms, labeling is one step in having an informed citizenry.
