Letter of the day: Students working together -- and with robots

Last update: April 5, 2008 - 5:25 PM

As a parent of a student in Robotics, I am writing to relate what a valuable program FIRST Robotics is for kids interested in science and technology. I attended the regional FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics competition held at the University of Minnesota March 28 and 29 and was impressed with the message of cooperative interactions. There were schools from Minnesota, the Dakotas, Iowa, Wisconsin and Missouri -- all working together in a gracious professional mode. Thank you to all the volunteers who made this event a success for our kids. The benefits of a strong commitment to science and technology build our kids and community.

Your Sept. 22 article says that Taser shocks may have "contributed to or caused at least 50" fatalities since 2001. More
