Paul launched his Minnesota campaign Saturday, saying the U.S. must reverse course on monetary policy, erosion of the rule of law and military engagement in the Middle East.

I'm somewhat perplexed by the views that libertarians and "Ron Paulites" in the Minnesota Republican Party have regarding their cherished liberties ("The Ron Paul revolution is well beyond the fringe," May 26) I hope these folks would work within the party to convince the social-conservative extremists in the Legislature to change their positions on the constitutional amendment issues, which would take away liberties. If the "Paulites" are for allowing gays to marry, then they must be for allowing all Minnesota citizens to vote without a picture ID. There are many obvious reasons not to have a voter ID amendment in our state Constitution. They include the obvious suppression of our most inalienable right to vote, which affects older citizens, the poor, disadvantaged, young people and so on.

GARY THOMPSON, ST. PAUL
