Editorial: Candidate's attack on governor was irresponsible

Mike Parry pops off again. It fits a pattern. It's also part of the reason voters should reject him.

There were a number of reasons why the Star Tribune Editorial Board declined to endorse Republican Mike Parry in the First District congressional primary. Parry provided further justification Monday with this reckless attack on Gov. Mark Dayton: "When you sit across from him and you watch him pop 15 to 16 pills when you're having a meeting, it's scary."
What's really frightening is that Parry is even in position to seek a congressional endorsement. Before he was elected to the state Senate, he was notable solely because of ill-advised comments and tweets, including comparing Democrats to pedophiles and calling President Obama a "Power Hungry Arrogant Black Man."
Dayton, who has been candid about dealing with depression, has denied Parry's charge. And two GOP legislators who've spent a lot of time with Dayton, former Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch and Rep. Morrie Lanning, came to the governor's defense. "The only thing I ever saw him pop was peanut M&Ms," Koch said.
After popping off about Dayton, Parry told a Farmfest forum on Tuesday: "Our country will fall because we are electing partisan people who have no will or want to work with the other side."
We agree. And hopefully First District Republicans will, too.
