RICHMOND, Va. — Police in Virginia say an unarmed hit-and-run suspect who ran naked onto an interstate highway has died after being shot by an officer.
Richmond police spokesman Gene Lepley said Tuesday that 24-year-old Marcus-David L. Peters of Henrico County died shortly after midnight.
The police statement says an officer witnessed Peters strike another vehicle Monday around 5:30 p.m. and then flee. The officer pursued him onto Interstate 95, where police say his car hit two more vehicles and went off the road.
Police say Peters then ran naked onto the interstate before he "charged" the officer, who fired a stun gun. The statement says the officer fired at the unarmed man only after the stun "proved ineffective."
Police have not identified the officer, who is on administrative leave.
