He was an avid reader of history and loved to discuss it with others. He had a dry sense of humor which will be greatly missed. In 1997, Ross and Glennie moved to Udall to live near their daughter and her family, where they enjoyed living in the country. He loved mowing the lawn while listening to his own little private radio station that he had created. James (Jim) Leslie Shaw

Shaw, James Leslie (Jim) 93, of Maplewood, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo E. Shaw and Nina B. (Hines) Shaw of Harrah, OK, sister Cleora (Al) Hudson, sister Laverne (Glen) Hudson, and son George Shaw. Born June 1, 1930, Jim graduated from Harrah High School in 1948, then continued his education at the University of Oklahoma and Drake University. While in Des Moines, IA, Jim met Martha Anne (Marty) Midgorden and fell head over heels in love. They married in October of 1951. Jim started his career at Central Surveys in Shenandoah, IA, and Solar Aircraft in Des Moines, IA. His life took an unexpected turn when he was drafted into the Army in 1955, where he served for 2 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant Major. After his honorable discharge, he and Marty moved back to Des Moines where he took a job as a Yellow Pages salesman for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. (NWB). He stayed with NWB throughout the rest of his career, transferring to locations in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota. Jim and Marty had 5 kids throughout these moves, and with these moves came various job titles. Eventually, he found a position in NWB that he didn't want to leave - Secretary of Employee Benefits in HR. He was responsible for all NWB employee benefits in a 5-state area. In 1968, Jim and Marty settled in Edina, MN where their kids finished their school years. In the 1980s, Jim served on the Board of Directors as Chairman at Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN. During this time, he was the pastor of the Orono Community of Christ congregation. Jim was also proud of serving on the Board of the Shaw Family Foundation (of Canada). After retiring in 1988, Jim and Marty moved to Marty's hometown Lamoni, IA. They bought a beautiful American colonial home (the old Dancer place) and spent many hours lovingly decorating it. Not idle people, Jim and Marty quickly pursued a longtime passion - they became antique dealers and immersed themselves in buying, refurbishing, and selling many beautiful items in their shop. Although it was more of a fun pastime than a money-maker, they had lots of fun doing it. Jim was passionate about golfing. Every winter he and Marty traveled to Arizona so he could golf all year long. For many years, they also found refuge from the Iowa allergy season in the friendlier climates of Idaho, and then Colorado in the fall. Throughout their travels, they accumulated many wonderful memories and friends. Jim loved to tell a good (if not naughty) joke, spend time with family, and give heartfelt advice to his kids and grandkids. In 2011, Jim and Marty moved back to MN to be close to family. They settled in Timber Hills, a retirement community in Inver Grove Heights, where they made good friends and hosted many family gatherings. When Jim started to slow down, they moved in with daughter Stephanie and her wife Barb to Maplewood, MN in 2018, where he lived out his remaining years. Jim is survived by Marty Shaw, his wife of 72 years, son Craig (Donna) Shaw, daughter Stephanie (Barb) Shaw, daughter-in-law Karen Shaw, daughter Christi Hauge, daughter Dana (Talin Bingham) Midby, and grandchildren Lauren (Clay) Raymer, Jenna Shaw, Kristin (Joe) Rubeo, Steven Shaw, Carly Walkowiak, and Matthew Midby, and great-granddaughter Nora Raymer. No funeral services have been planned at this time, as it was Jim and Marty's wish to have a combined service once both of them have passed.

Peter C. Tundel

Tundel, Peter C. Age 76 of Eden Prairie passed away April 17, 2024, after a battle with cancer. He is survived by wife, Sandi; daughter, Nikki (Tim), daughter, Laura (Aaron), and son, Mark (Jason). Funeral service Tuesday, April 23, 7PM with visitation 1 hour prior to service, both at: Washburn-McReavy.com Eden Prairie Chapel 952-975-0400 7625 Mitchell Rd. (1 blk. N. of Hwy 5). Pete was smart, funny, caring and determined. He was a unique mix of optimist and cynic. And he was extremely loved. He was born in Brooklyn and grew up playing football, baseball and basketball with his three brothers. He met his wife at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. They got married in 1970. Pete worked for Cargill for 15 years, with job promotions sending the family from Indiana to Washington, Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota. In 1992, he bought a Sox Appeal store, happily becoming his own boss. He eventually owned three stores in the metro. Some might describe Pete as old-school, traditional or matter-of-fact. Others might call him stuck in his ways. Regardless, he was always kind, supportive and generous. He LOVED golf and played every chance he could get. He was a humble guy but always happy to talk about the time he got a hole-in-one. He ate his steaks rare and ordered a glass of milk with every meal. He wasn't big on spices and only liked what he called "regular food." He read all he could find about the country's Founding Fathers and could tell you everything you'd ever want to know about Thomas Jefferson -- or likely more than you'd ever want to know. Pete still did his taxes by hand, using the little pencils typically reserved for golf scorecards. He took his family to ball games and museums. He guided his wife and kids along every inch of both Boston's Freedom Trail and Philadelphia's Revolution Walking Tour. He made it to seemingly endless gymnastics meets for all three of his children. He enjoyed making Christmas brunch and considered himself a master of the perfect pancake. Pete will be missed terribly.
