Nypan, Gladyce "Pepper" (Pederson) age 94, of Appleton, WI, formerly of St. Louis Park, MN, passed away August 26, 2015, at Brewster Village in Appleton. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 3 at Westwood Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park followed by a military service at Ft. Snelling at 1:30 p.m. Pepper was born on August 23, 1921, in Louisburg, MN, the daughter of Oscar and Marie (Heglund) Pederson. Pepper was united in marriage to Oliver Nypan on November 2, 1947 at the Louisburg Church near Appleton, MN. Pepper was a Marine in World War II rising to the rank of sergeant and becoming the original "Sgt. Pepper." She was involved in politics for many years including decades in various roles in the League of Women Voters. Her Norwegian heritage was front and center in so many activities. She was a lifetime Sons of Norway member and was happiest getting ready for the next holiday. She turned making lefse into an art form. Pepper is survived by her children, Ron (Deana) Nypan of Cushing; Jan Jackson (friend Bob Jahnke) of Kaukauna, WI; grandchildren, Kristoffer, Niklas, Jenna and Jonathan; sisters, Norma, Bette and Marion; brothers, Oscar, Norman, and David; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
