Bocian, Dr. Barbara Helen, PhD. 1943-2015 Barbara was born and raised in Oak Park, Illinois to Peter and Helen Bocian. She attended the University of Wisconsin, Platteville where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in elementary education. She taught for nine years in grades K-5 and served as a supervising teacher at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. Barbara received her Doctorate Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She served as an elementary principal in the Owatonna school system and completed her career in the Mounds View school district as a school principal in three different elementary schools. During this time, Dr. Barb was also a member of the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi. She was the first principal in the Mounds View school district to be granted a Bush Fellowship. Dr. Barb's career was cut short when she experienced kidney failure. After being on disability for a period of time, she found it necessary to retire as principal due to her health. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, Jim; and nephew, Tim. She is survived by her sister, Paulette of San Diego; brother, Jerry (Sherry) of Chicago; sister-in-law, Carol; in addition to her many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her good friend Linda, and Linda's family who adopted her as their own. They all loved her and cared for her during her long illness. She will be missed by her close friends, especially Karen. Barbara will be remembered by many as a kind and caring person. A special thanks to the lady from New Jersey who gave Barb additional years by donating her kidney. God Bless! A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
