Colwell, Cynthia Felton age 76, passed away Saturday, June 6th in her home in Miami, Florida. Cynthia was born on January 12th, 1939 in Minneapolis to Helen and Felton Colwell, both of whom are deceased. She is survived by her brothers, Tom (Phyllis), John (Joan), and David (Charlotte, deceased). She is also survived by seven loving nieces and nephews, who visited her often. Cynthia graduated from Northrup Collegiate High School in Minneapolis and Carleton College in Northfield, where she attained a B.A. in Art History. Art was Cynthia's passion. After college, she worked at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts for a short time. Wanting to broaden her horizon, Cynthia moved to New York City in 1964, where she worked for the International Council of the Museum of Modern Art. There, she worked to organize traveling art exhibits. Cynthia was well ahead of her time, as she purchased the entire 8th floor of a 5th Avenue (at 15th Street) loft co-op, well before it was trendy to do. The large loft also housed her art studio, where she produced watercolor paintings and created wonderful sculpture pieces. During her life, Cynthia spent considerable time traveling and living in Europe -Madrid, Spain, the South of France, and Florence, Italy - where she painted landscapes of the surrounding area. Cynthia moved to Grove Isle in Miami in 2011. The Colwell family wishes to thank Cynthia's Manhattan and Miami friends, Joan Ambrose, Lewis Fomon, and especially Claudia Melgar, all of whom gave Cynthia tremendous love, care, and support during her struggle with lung cancer. There will be a memorial service in the Chapel at Plymouth Congregational Church. 1900 Nicollet Avenue, on Tuesday, June 30th at 10:00 a.m. Memorials are preferred to The Blake School or Carleton College or donor's choice.
