Chechik, Sara Louise (Bacon) Sara Chechik passed on Tues, February 17th after a courageous battle with Carcinoid/ Neuroendo-crine Tumor (NETs). She was only 49 years old. Sara was born in Lancaster, PA to Bruce and Betty Jean (BJ) Bacon and then spent her childhood in Plymouth, MN. Sara graduated from Wayzata High School (1983) and attended the University of Wisconsin (BA in Communications, 1987). Just weeks before graduating, Sara fortuitously met her future husband, Joel Chechik, while sharing a picnic table and looking out upon Lake Mendota from the UW Union Terrace. Sara loved to travel and lived in London during part of college, followed by marvelous trips throughout her life to Spain, Italy, Germany, Thailand and most of the US. Sara loved to meet people and succeeded as a Corp. Account Rep for American Express. She was rapidly promoted to Regional Sales Director and proudly attained President's Club achievement. Sara started a family with daughter Lucille Anna (now 19) and daughter Sonya Rose (now 16). Sara's two daughters were the treasure of her life and she poured love into the two beautiful girls until the moment she passed. Sara loved the outdoors and relished in the many Minneapolis park system activities. She also adored the massive beauty of Lake Superior and shared some of our family's greatest memories with close friends and her wonderful views of deep, crashing water. She focused on her daughters' many scholastic and athletic events, yet always had relaxing "family time" at home, cooking or walking her sweet Boxer, Saldo, in the Linden Hills community that she loved. Sara participated in many Twin Cities events including the TC Marathon and Susan Komen 3-day walk, forming the highly spirited team, "Happy Hoofers for Healthy Hooters!" She loved life. Sara passed away at Jackson Hospital (Miami), from complications following Multi-visceral organ transplant (MVOT). She did not want to die from cancer and after countless hours of research and referrals, it was determined that an MVOT could provide a fresh start. After a long wait, Sara thankfully received the gift of organs and began a miraculous recovery. The transplant was a success to rid Sara's body of the Carcinoid that had encompassed her liver. Unfortunately, after being discharged from the hospital, maladies occurred that subsequently reversed the recovery. Sara fought voraciously through 76-days in SICU before laying down her sword. Joel, Lucy, Sonya, Sara's sister Kathy (Donnelly) and dear friend, Birdie Cunningham were by Sara's side to see her spirit move forward, finally untethered from a physical body that was ravaged by disease. Sara leaves behind her husband, Joel with whom she shared 24 wonderful years; daughters Lucy and Sonya; parents Bruce and Betty Jean (BJ) Bacon of Plymouth, MN and sister, Kathy (brother-in-law, Larry Donnelly) of Plymouth, MN. Sara also had several tremendous nieces and nephews and countless friends whom made her fight so worthwhile. Sara was predeceased by a sister, Martha Bacon . Memorial Service will be: Fri, February 27, 4 pm at Plymouth Congregational Church 1900 Nicollet Ave (at Franklin Ave), Minneapolis. Instead of flowers, the family asks that you consider a contribution: In memory of Sara Chechik The Healing Net Foundation thehealingnet.org/ about-us/ 817 3rd Ave N #306 (attn: Cindy L.)
