Sommers, Lyle Celebration of Life for Lyle Sommers 73, of Lake City, will be held at the Lake City Sportsman Club, Sunday, February 8th, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial Service at Millville Cemetery on Monday, February 9th, at 11:00 a.m. Lyle was born in Millville, MN in 1941 to Floyd and Thelma Sommers. He attended grade school at West Albany Country School, then Rochester and eventually moved and graduated from Minneapolis South. Married Karen (Sands), 1961, and had two children. Lyle worked in the terrazzo marble trades in the Twin Cities and out East until 1976 when he partnered up with Leroy Nelson buying Ceramic Industrial Coating; moving it to Osseo, MN in 1981. They built this into a large regional industrial coatings company - with a lot of luck and the help from many good employees. This business fostered building Rose Distribution Center, and KL&KL Investments. Lyle was a member of Shakopee Jaycees; Osseo Lions Club; Osseo Business Association and EDA; Frontenac Sportsman Club and the Lake City Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Award and Volunteer of the year in 2013. Lyle enjoyed motorcycling, playing baseball, basketball and a fan and supporter of the Twins and Gopher Basketball for many years; liked working on community projects with fellow Lion Members; hunting in South Dakota with friends from Shakopee and Lake City; and loved taking his granddaughter to the new Twins Park. His passion was playing poker with friends from Rochester. Lyle is survived by his wife Shelly; children Callie and Jeff (Lara), grandchildren: Elia, Anda and Ora; Sisters Karen Meyer, LaVonne Campbell, several sister-in-laws, brother-in-law, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Craig, and wife Karen. Memorials preferred to Millville Cemetery; cards and memorials may be mailed to: Shelly Sommers at PO Box 45, Lake City, MN 55041. Funeral arrangements by Lyle's good friend, Augie of Schleicher Funeral Homes. 651-345-5778. Condolences: schleicherfuneralhomes.com
