Platt Kenneth Bowman Platt, aged 60, died on Wednesday, June 1, in Hackensack, New Jersey. He & his wife, Adrienne C. Hamilton, had recently returned from Atlantic City for a stem-cell transplant and treatment. Kenneth was born June 17, 1944, to Martha and Stanley Platt. He was the brother of Vincent, Louise and Douglas Platt. Ken grew up in Minneapolis where he attended Kenwood School and graduated from Blake. He earned a BA with honors in Political Science from Amherst College, a MA in City Planning from the University of California at Berkeley and a Ph.D. in City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. Ken began his career as an Assistant Professor of Urban Studies at Stockton State College in New Jersey. He then directed Bergen County, New Jersey's Community Development Program. In 1990 he was named Director of Atlantic City's Department of Planning and Development where he served until 2002. Kenneth has been credited as having the vision behind many of the developments that have transformed parts of Atlantic City in recent years. Ken's first marriage to Leigh Hallingby ended in divorce. He is survived by his wife, Adrienne Hamilton, her children William and Celine Hamilton, as well as the family named above and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives throughout the country. A memorial service will be held in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Saturday, July 9, 2005.
