Bertrand, Loel F. Age 93, of New Hope, formerly of Buffalo, passed away December 24, 2014, at St. Therese. He was born on March 16, 1921, the son of Lexzy and Myrtle (Mack) Bertrand in Clark, South Dakota. On October 28, 1944, Loel Bertrand was joined in holy marriage to Patricia E. McTernan in Freeholt, New Jersey. Loel was a faithful Catholic; being a member at the Church of St. Michael, St. Raphael's in Crystal, and most recently at St. Therese in New Hope. Loel was a Chief Engineer at Northwestern Bell for many years, a WWII Army Veteran, a Crystal City Council member, and a 4th Degree Grand Knight of the Crystal Knights of Columbus. After retirement, Loel became a Master Gardener at the MN Landscape Arboretum. Family describes Loel as a very kind, caring, and giving role model and a friend to all. Preceded in death by wife, Patricia E. Bertrand; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters. Survived by sons, Michael (Sheryl) Bertrand of Edina, MN, Timothy (Jean) Bertrand of Gloucester, VA; daughters, Terry (Lloyd) Thielmann of Dayton, MN, Patty (Roger) Hansen of Blaine, MN, Margaret Keesling of Hutchinson, MN; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation for Loel will be held Thursday, January 1, 2015, from 5-8 PM at The Peterson Chapel of St. Michael-Albertville, with a prayer service at 7:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 2, 2015, 10:00 AM at the Church of St. Michael in St. Michael, with visitation starting at 9:00 AM. Interment at the church cemetery. Memorials in Loel's name preferred to St. Therese in New Hope or the MN Landscape Arboretum.
