Forster Robert Lee Forster, son of Peter and Irene Forster, died unexpectedly of liver cancer on May 15. He was 72. Bob was born in Eureka, S.D., and graduated from Bethlehem Academy in Faribault, MN. Following graduation from St. John's University in Collegeville in 1954, he spent two years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He had a long and storied career as a businessman and entrepreneur. He owned and ran restaurants, print shops and car dealerships in the Twin Cities and Faribault. Always a fighter, he was known for his tenacity, work ethic and disdain for losing. A quirky sense of humor was his most endearing trait, and his friends were often the butt of his practical jokes. Sports and world history enthralled him. Black Jack and Gin were his games of choice. Bob particularly treasured time spent at St. John's University. He played football throughout college, and was on the inaugural team of St. John's coaching legend John Gagliardi. He also was a college heavyweight wrestling champion. Most of all he liked spending time with his family. Patricia, his loving wife of 47 years, survives him. Survivors also include sister Delores Lembke; brother Jim Forster; four children, Kate (Jon) Schulz, David (Sandy) Forster, Julie Forster, Teresa (Mike) Burns; and seven grandchildren, David Jr., Max and Sam Forster, Matthew and Alexandra Schulz, and Mackenzie and Charlie Burns. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Risen Savior, 1501 East County Road 42, in Burnsville, one mile east of 35W. Guests are welcome at 10 a.m. A private interment will be held at Fort Snelling. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to donor's charity of choice.
