Survived by his wife of 70 years, Esther; children, Mark (Elizabeth), Anne (Peter), Binks (Jill), and Elizabeth (John); eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. As a Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Wattenberg is widely credited with creating and fostering the field of Cancer Chemoprevention. His accomplishments were recognized by an Award of Lifetime Achievement in Cancer Prevention Research by the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) in 2011.
