Johnson, Dale Owen Born January 26, 1933 to Alvin and Esther Johnson in Minneapolis, MN. Dale graduated from Minneapolis Central High School in 1951. He was in ROTC at the Univ. of MN and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1956, with majors in Recreation & Park Administration, Military Science & Tactics, Education, and Speech. He served in the United States Army Quartermaster Corps as a First Lieutenant, stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia, from 1956-1958. He instructed new Quartermaster Officers at the Quartermaster Training Command School. He was also Scoutmaster and Advisor for the Fort Lee Boy Scout Troop. He was honorably discharged on May 8, 1964. He earned a Master of Education degree from the Univ. of MN in 1959. He worked for the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board, with a passion for youth sports, until 1988, when he retired to become a stay-at-home dad. Dale was married to Charlyne A. Larson from South Dakota on December 16, 1961. They were blessed with five children, their spouses and ten grandchildren. Together, Dale & Char studied the Bethel Bible Study and taught classes at Central Lutheran Church. Dale especially enjoyed working with communion services Sunday evenings. Dale went to his Glory with the Lord on October 24, 2014. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Char; his children, Karn (Larry) John, Kerry (Nick) Castano, Kerstin (Chad) Erickson, Karl (Noyoung) Johnson, Katina (Andre) Duke; and grandchildren, Ben, Elizabeth, Sam, and Josh John, Kaj, Tait, and Ava Erickson, Caleb Johnson, and Isaiah and Eli Duke. Also survived by brother, Dennis R. (Joanne) Johnson and nephew, Craig (Mary) Johnson. Service will be held at Central Lutheran Church and interment is at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, details to be announced in Tuesday's paper.
