Lupori, Catherine Pribyl Catherine Pribyl Lupori of Minneapolis died suddenly of natural causes October 13, 2014 at the age of 95. Survived by her loving husband of 56 years, sculptor, Peter Lupori; son, John (Laura) de Thier-Lupori; daughter, Maria (Doug McNurlin) Kaiser; three grandchildren (Jamie Lynn Lupori, Brandon Lupori and Darien Kaiser), one great-granddaughter (Gianna Catherine Lupori) and her sister Helen Bailey of Colorado. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother. After graduating from the College of St Benedict, Catherine joined the faculty at St. Catherine's University where she taught with fervor for 43 years, 1951-1994, as a Professor of English and later of Women's Studies. She served as Chair of the English Department for nine years. Founding Director of the Abigail Quigley McCarthy Center for Women's Research, Resources & Scholarship in 1985, she ran the Center until her retirement in 1994, developing an Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities Women's Studies major and a minor at St Catherine's. Catherine was a champion of women's education and equality for women on all levels, in and outside of the workplace. Her visionary accomplishments garnered her national recognition and a profile by the American Association for Higher Education (AAHE). For 50 years, she spearheaded an annual book discussion called Conversation with Books that she founded in 1965. Catherine inspired people to read deeply and critically, whether it be Shakespeare or any of a long list of authentic writers she espoused. The community of readers & advocates of women's education have lost a champion! Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joan of Arc Church, 4537 3rd Avenue South in Minneapolis on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 7 PM with Visitation beginning at 5:30 PM. Memorials preferred to the Catherine Pribyl Lupori Endowed Book Fund or the Abigail Quigley McCarthy Center for Women Endowment, both at St. Catherine University.
