Gibson George Randall Gibson, 98, of Midland, TX died Thursday, August 19, 2004. He was born October 2, 1905 to Thomas Randall Gibson & Isabelle Skene Gibson in Kendaia, NY. He married Orpha Olsen on June 17, 1929 in Faribault, MN. Mr. Gibson graduated from Medford High School in Medford, OK. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. degree in 1930 and a PhD in geology in 1934. In 1928 he received All-America honors in football and played professional football for two years. Mr. Gibson received many honors and awards in his field, among them the Petroleum Museum Hall of Fame in 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1993. Mr. Gibson is survived by his sons, Randall Gibson, and Richard Gibson & his wife Nancy. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Gina Gibson, Marisa Burns, Sally Agar; and 3 great-grandchildren, all of Midland, TX. Also surviving is his sister, Margaret Gibson Borlaug of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services have been scheduled for 3 PM Saturday, August 21, 2004 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland with Rev. Steven Schorr officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy., Midland, TX (432-683-5555). Memorials may be directed to Midland Memorial Hospital, 2200 W. Illinois, Midland, TX 79701 or to the charity of one's choice.
