Arthur P. Fischer

Fischer, Arthur P. Duluth, passed away July 18 at 92 years of age. Art was born in Minneapolis on Nov. 28, 1921, to Karen I. (Mossyge) and Arthur P. Fischer Sr. He received a BS degree in Food Technology from the U of MN in 1947 and began a 30 year career with General Mills, the last 20 years of which were spent in Central America. He married Dolly Valentine in 1959. They retired to Port Angeles, WA where Art enjoyed salmon fishing and began a second career as a volunteer. He made 36 trips to Russia and Eastern Europe for Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance and received the President's Call to Service award in 2009. He moved to Duluth, MN in 2000 and was a volunteer with the Second Harvest Food Bank, receiving their Volunteer of the Year award in 2008. Art was a life-long MN Gophers, Twins and Vikings fan and an ardent cribbage player. He was preceded in death by his wife Dolly, his parents, sister Margaret, brother John, and niece Karen Wisen. He is survived by nieces Mary Victor (Ted), Julie Olson, and Terry March, 5 grandnieces, and 6 great grandnephews. A celebration of Art's life will be held Sunday, Aug 17, at 2 pm at the Cargill Building on the U of MN St. Paul campus (1500 Gortner Ave.). Memorials preferred to the Salvation Army.
