Bendel, Sylvester H. "Sy" Age 81, of Vadnais Heights, formerly of Roseville, passed away peacefully July 27, 2014. Survived by beloved wife of 57 years, Betty; children, David (Jeannie), Catherine (David) Schachtner, Jane (Marc) Preskitt, and Joan (Steven) Ziertman; grandchildren, Patrick, Ryan, Jack, Racheal, Molly, Tony, Kristin, Josh and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Maddie. Sy was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He was a chemical engineer for Honeywell and Medtronic. An active member of St. Pius X Church, Sy demonstrated a serving heart in many other organizations throughout the Twin Cities. Sy also had a passion for the outdoors, especially spending time with friends and family at the log cabin he built on Lake Vermilion. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church (3738 Highland Ave, White Bear Lake). Visitation 5-8 PM, Friday at Roseville Memorial Chapel (2245 N. Hamline Ave, Roseville 651/631-2727) and for one hour prior to Mass at Church on Saturday. Interment at Guardian Angels Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Women's LifeCare Center (2870 Middle St., Little Canada, 55117), St. Pius X Catholic Church or Masses.
