White-Newman, Julie Belle A Celebration of Her Life Julie Belle White-Newman peacefully departed this life on December 4, 2017 at home in the place she loved. She lived a full and happy life and gave of herself to all. Julie Belle grew up in Saint Paul where she was the daughter of Hubert W. (Bill) White, Jr. and Jule Bell White. She attended Derham Hall High School and received her doctorate from the University of Minnesota; she remained in close contact with her classmates throughout her life. She spent much of her life in St. Paul, Minnesota until John Newman caught her eye and she became G.U. (Geographically Unacceptable, as they say in St. Paul) deserting that city and moving all the way across the Mississippi River to Minnetonka Beach on Lake Minnetonka. Julie Belle loved. She loved passionately. She loved her family and she loved John's family. She loved her friends and she loved her life. Julie Belle taught. Julie Belle taught at St. Catherine University in St. Paul. She taught all of us who came in contact with her, whether it was a stranger, a colleague, a superior, an equal, a student, a child and always, members of her large close and extended family. Julie Belle led. She formed the first Masters of Organizational Leadership program in the United States. And Julie Belle also followed: The first course in her curriculum was "Learning Effective Followership." She became a faculty representative to the University's Board of Directors, interim Dean of Liberal Arts, and a special advisor to the President as The College became St. Catherine University. Julie Belle loved to cook. When she visited Washington DC to view Julia Child's kitchen (true) she wore a string of pearls for Julia (also true). Les Daube was one of her favorite dishes. And almost every Sunday she made her own French bread. Julie Belle taught her family members to love even the very idea of cooking. Julie Belle cared. She "retired" to Naples and promptly became a member of Greater Naples Leader-ship. That challenged her to volunteer. She served on the GNL board. She became a guardian ad litem. She helped found the Quail Creek Community Association to bring people togetherand in her spare time she served on many of her Club's committees. She is survived by her husband, John Newman and siblings Hubert W. (Bill) White, III, of Los Angeles, Robert J. (Bob) White of Edina and Gregory M. (Gregg) White of Minneapolis, as well as numerous step-children, nieces, nephews, cousins and their offspring. There will be a celebration of her life at a reception on Thursday, May 3rd at 5 PM at St. Catherine University in Saint Paul. There will also be a celebration on January 22nd starting at 5 PM at the Quail Creek Country Club.
