Geistfeld, Joan "Joanie" (Schmitt) age 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on November 30, 2017 at Lake Minnetonka Shores retirement community in Spring Park, MN. Born in Minneapolis during the Great Depression of 1929, Joan lived a full and wonderful life. First Married to Robert Schmitt (deceased), they moved to Excelsior in 1955 and had seven children: Susan, Robert Jr., Steven (deceased), John, David, Rebecca "Becca" and Mary who did not survive birth. Joan was a wonderful wife, mother, friend and "life of the party" (that's her Joanie side). She and her group of friends were pioneers of the FUN life on Lake Minnetonka, enjoyed by so many today. It started at the The Belle Aire Yacht Club in Excelsior, then Lord Fletcher's was born and years later Maynards was built, all venues created from Joanie's generation. Joan loved being "Nana" to grandchildren Nicole "Niki", Michael, Justin, Alexandra "Ali", Andrew, Prentice, Zoe, Ian and Abraham "A.J." (deceased). She had recently become a great grandmother too. Joan was also lucky to find a second love in her life, Harold "Hal" Geistfeld (deceased) whom she married and spent many wonderful years with in Plymouth, MN, and various locations in Florida. Joan truly enjoyed life, traveled the world, laughed, loved and cried, all with grace and class. She also loved bridge, boating, ceramics, painting and read every Danielle Steel novel she could find on her Kindle. Family, friends and others whose lives Joan or "Joanie" touched are invited to: Lake Minnetonka Shores retirement community chapel, 4515 Shoreline Drive, Spring Park at 4pm on Tuesday, December 26th for her memorial service and to reminisce about her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the charity of the donor's choice. Huber Funeral & Cremation Services Excelsior Chapel 952-474-9595 huberfunerals.com
