Wood, Charles S. "Chuck" Age 94 of Bloomington, passed away June 17, 2017. He was the last of 13 children born to Seth and Hattie Wood of White Bear Lake, now all deceased. Survived by loving wife, Evelyn and daughters, Katherine and Rebecca; nephews and nieces. A singer, teacher, choir director and sportsman, he earned a B.A. in music and M.Ed. at Macalester College, with further studies at the University of Minnesota and St. Thomas. He served 3 1/2 years in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. In the 1950s and '60s he sang lead roles with the St. Paul Civic Opera Association, Minneapolis Civic Opera, Minneapolis Symphony Pops Concerts, and St. Paul Pops and won a Titcomb Award in the Metropolitan Opera regional auditions. He sang tenor in a solo quartet at Temple Israel in Minneapolis (30 years), sang the national anthem at the original Metropolitan Stadium for the Minnesota Vikings (17 years), and directed three pop choral groups: the Show Stoppers (Bloomington), Silvertones (Richfield), and Accents (Minneapolis). He directed church choirs at Oak Grove Presbyterian (Bloomington) and Richfield Lutheran. He taught music in the Goodhue, Minneapolis and Bloomington Schools, where he was known for his production and direction of operettas and Broadway musicals. He was especially proud of his 60 piece Goodhue High School Band. He was a member of the Richfield American Legion Post #435. In retirement, he enjoyed singing and entertaining senior citizens and fishing with old teacher friends. He will be remembered for his enthusiasm and joy in living and his deep, abiding love for his family. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
