He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Joan Arlene Nagel. The son of Arthur Emil Julius Nagel and Agnes V. Honetschlager Nagel, Jack was born in 1926 in Adams, Minnesota. Shortly after graduating from Adams High School in 1944, Jack enlisted in the United States Navy. After serving in the Navy for three years training as a pilot, he was discharged in 1947 with the rank of Midshipman. In 1950, Jack graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Civil Engineering. On May 26, 1951, he married his sweetheart, Joan Arlene Hamilton, in Minneapolis. Jack and Joan were married at St. Thomas the Apostle church and were members for over 60 years. Jack was dedicated to his community, especially the Linden Hills area in Mpls. Jack was one of the originators of SWAC ( Southwest Athletic Council) and STA (St. Thomas Athletic Association). Jack coached many baseball, football, and hockey teams through the years. He loved Linden Hills Park and watching youth sports. Jack was a registered professional civil and structural engineer in several states and specialized in the food processing area. His assignments took him all over the U.S and internationally. Jack eventually returned to Minneapolis where he went to work for International Multifoods Company. He later joined Henry Schipke Engineering, eventually becoming CEO of the company and running the business until his retirement. Jack was a man who lived to work and loved every minute of doing so. He returned to active employment by answering phones, taking orders and performing administrative duties at his son Bob's lawn and landscaping business. He worked full time until just recently. His family will remember him for his love of popcorn, sweets of all varieties, attending Shakopee baseball games, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his later years, Jack would become the number one fan of the local Shakopee Indians baseball team. The family is extremely grateful to the entire Methodist Hospice Team. Funeral services will be held at 10 am (10 am visitation and 11 am service) on Saturday, June 24 at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 2914 W. 44th Street, Minneapolis.
