Stanton, James M. Age 81, of Minneapolis passed away peacefully on June 17, 2017 surrounded by family. Preceded in death by father Michael (Ray) Stanton; mother Margaret (Viola) Stanton; sister Dorothy Stanton; and brothers Lyle and Tom Stanton. Survived by sons Kevin (Megan) Stanton, Dennis Stanton (Denise Lien); daughters Debra (Paul) Woodward and Colleen (Tom) LaBeau; brothers Kenny (Carol) Stanton, Jerry (Sheila) Stanton, Russell (Mary) Stanton; and sisters Marlene (Robert) Gustafson, Margaret (William) Healy, Diane (Butch) Remington, Kathy Stanton and Cheryl Stanton; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; dedicated employees and "cuzzys." James Stanton was born on March 8, 1936 in Greenvale Township to Ray and Viola Stanton. He graduated from Bethlehem Academy high school in Faribault, Minnesota in 1954. He served in the National Guard at Camp Ripley and Fort Carson, Colorado and later went on to get his PhD from the "school of hard knocks." Jim Stanton has been in the Real Estate business for 55+ years, and developing land for 40+ years. He has developed more than 6,000 home sites in 28 different cities. He currently has residential and commercial projects in 10 different cities within Minnesota and Wisconsin. Key developments include Riverdale Village in Coon Rapids and The Wilds Golf Course in Prior Lake. In addition, Jim has developed 9 loft projects in downtown Minneapolis including Bridgewater Lofts, Stonebridge and Portland Tower. He also provides affordable rent to nearly 300 visual artists at the Northrup King Building in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. Jim has received many leadership roles and distinguished awards for his service with the Minnesota Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, North Metro Realtors Association, St. Paul Area Association of Realtors and the Builders Association of the Twin Cities. In 2014 Jim was inducted into the Minnesota Real Estate Hall of Fame. A 35-year member of the Builders Association, Jim has served on the board of directors for both Builders Association of Minnesota and National Association of Home Builders (NHAB). Celebration of Life will take place 11 AM Friday, June 23, 2017 at the New Hope Church, 4225 Gettysburg Avenue N., New Hope, MN. Visitation will take place from 4-8 PM Thursday (6/22) also at the CHURCH, and 1 hr prior to service. Interment, Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis.
