Edward E. Steinbauer, age 82, of Burnsville, on January 23, 2002. ``Fast'' Eddie Steinbauer, a physical marvel, all-around athlete, decorated veteran, successul entrepreneur and devoted family man. All these words and phrases describe a remarkable man. Ed followed up a ``Hall of Fame'' career at Owatonna High School with a spot on Minnesota's 1940 National Championship Football Team. His competitive nature and love of athletics gave Ed the strength to survive combat in Europe. He served with the 99th Infantry Division during WWII, earning four Battle Stars and a Bronze Star. In 1956, Ed started Edina Engineering in his garage. The company grew and so did Ed'd family - wife, Bea (she died twelve years ago) and three children. Through it all, he maintained a lifelong passion for fastpitch softball. He pitched over 1800 games during a career spanning seven decades. ``Fast'' Eddie Steinbauer was inducted into the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame in 1999. He is survived by his children, John, Bill and Mary; daughters-in-law, Anna and Kathy; grandchildren, Katie Graczyk (Matt), Ryan, Tara, Mandy, John and Natale; sister, Marie Karaug; and family friend, Karen. Visitation Monday 5:00-8:00 PM at Brick-Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna, MN 55060. Services Tuesday 11:00 at Church of the Sacred Heart, 810 South Cedar Ave., Owatonna, MN 55060. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Assoc.
