Boom, Dennis W. Beloved Father, Grandfather and Friend Age 77 of St. Paul, Honolulu, HI and Dallas, TX passed away from complications due to pancreatic cancer on May 20, 2017 in Dallas, TX. Dennis was born in Marion, ND and grew up in Valley City, ND. He came to St. Paul to attend Hamline University, where after two years he transferred to the U of MN where he received his degree in Mortuary Science in 1962. He spent his entire working career at the Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell Funeral Home. He purchased the funeral home business in 1981 from Earl and Roswitha Holcomb. Dennis and Elaine expanded the business to a second location in Shoreview in 1993. Dennis was an extremely thrifty and generous person. He was an active philanthropist who gave of his heart and time to his community. Dennis was Prime Minister of the 1996 St. Paul Winter Carnival, and was a member and served in leadership roles in the St. Paul Rotary Club, Midway Lions Club, Tusler-Summit Masonic Lodge # 263, St. Paul Osman Shrine, Honolulu Aloha Ct #1 ROJ and Waikiki Yacht Club. He sang in church choirs for over 50 years beginning in Valley City, ND, Hamline United Methodist Church and St. Andrews Cathedral in Honolulu, HI. Dennis had a love of music, and enjoyed volunteering to play the piano, his tuba and the Shriner's Calliope. His true love was international travel and he and his late wife Elaine, traveled the world together, visiting all seven continents. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elaine (nee Segale) in 2015 and his parents, Aaron and Marie Boom. He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Sean Furrh and his special grandchildren, Annabelle, Sofia and Ian Furrh; cousins and many friends.
