Duroche, Leonard LeRoy Age 83. Born June 3, 1933, in Kansas City, MO, and died April 2, 2017, in St. Paul, MN. During his long career in academia, Leo Duroche taught German language, culture, and literature, comparative literature, film studies, and men's studies. He received his doctorates from Stanford University in philosophy, literary criticism, and German and was associate professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota Department of German, Scandinavian and Dutch. Over the years, Leo taught at other universities, including Dartmouth College, Harpur College, Stanford University, the University of Texas and the University of Munich, Germany. Leo loved his family, language and languages, playing music, gardening (especially bonsai), fishing and fly-tying , opera, woodworking, books, films, teaching, intellectual discussions, cooking and life in general (not necessarily in that order!). Preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Addison Duroche and Mary Elizabeth (Godfrey) Duroche, and his siblings, Robert Eugene Duroche and Winona Ruth Sparks. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Deborah Snouffer, 5 adult children (Leo Whitebird, Matthew DuRoche, Lucy DuRoche, Timothy DuRoche, Hilary Strander), 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends and students. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Department of German, Scandinavian, and Dutch, University of Minnesota; the First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis; the ACLU; the Southern Poverty Law Center or other organizations that serve his varied interests. Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 6, 2:00, at the First Unitarian Society, 900 Mount Curve Blvd, Minneapolis, MN 55403.
