Jack passed away on April 20, 2017 at his home in Minneapolis, MN, at age 91. Jack grew up in Minneapolis, attended Washburn High School and lived in the city for the majority of his life. Jack met Jean, his only love, on a blind date on April 17, 1942 (at age 16) and they were married on May 31, 1947. Jean was by his side when he passed away. In 1943, Jack enlisted in the US Navy V-5 Naval Aviation Cadet program. At the end of WWII, he received an honorable discharge and was an active reservist until May 1947. Jack was in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BA. After graduation, he joined and grew his father's insurance agency. He was proud of his insurance business of 83 years now in it's fourth generation. Generous throughout his life, Jack found ways to create and support his community. Jack was a member of the Lake Harriet Masonic Lodge, the Minneapolis Exchange Club, Kiwanis Club, among many other civic and social groups. He was an avid supporter of the Gophers, Twins and Vikings. Jean and Jack stayed active during their retirement and enjoyed their second home on Bay Lake in Deerwood, MN, treasuring the beauty and quiet of nature and their circle of friends at the lake. In 2014, Jack and Jean became active members in their new community as one of the first residents at The Waters on 50th, just blocks from their original home in Minneapolis. Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a true gentleman to everyone. He will be missed. Jack was preceeded in death by his parents, Lauritz and Doris Dyste. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jean (Bergstrom); children Carol (Bob) Hunt, Todd (Mary Korzeniowski), Brad (Donna) and Ted (Julie). He has seven grandchildren, Betsy Dyste, John (Lauren) Dyste, Beau Dyste, Diana Dyste (Marc Thurow), Jamie Hunt, Nels Dyste (Liz Scherer), Laura (Drew) Penz; two great-grandchildren, Jack Rintala and Lewis Dyste, and was waiting for two more to be born this summer. Jack is also survived by his sister, Joyce Boughton of California and four nephews. There will be a celebration of Jack's life at The Waters on 50th, 3500 W 50th St, Mpls on May 15th from 3-5 following a Private Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to U of M Masonic Children's Hospital, Courage Kenny Foundation or Mount Olivet Lutheran Church.
