Olson, Eugene "Gene" R. age 91, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. He now joins his beloved wife Leona in the home God has prepared for him. He is survived by daughter Kathy Haglund, sons Wayne and Brian, brothers Kenneth and Daniel, grandchildren Michelle Zaugg (Jeff), Kiki Romsaas (Erik), Brent Haglund, Kendra Olson, four great-grand-children and many nieces and nephews. Gene was born April 9, 1926 in the Desnoyer Park area of St. Paul, the sixth of nine children born to Rudolph and Martha Olson. He had a long career at Deluxe Corporation, where he started as an artist and moved up through 6 different jobs, ultimately becoming President, CEO and Chairman. He retired in 1986 after more than 40 years of service. During his tenure as President, Deluxe joined the NYSE, became a Fortune 500 company, and was listed as a "best place to work" in Forbes. Gene loved art and never stopped producing cartoons and caricatures (to the delight of his grandchildren, family, and friends). He and Leona loved to host gatherings wherever they were, whether in the Twins Cities, at Gull Lake or Naples, Florida. He was a dedicated supporter of Bethel University in Arden Hills and a lifetime member of Bethany Baptist Church in Roseville. Memorials preferred to: Bethany Baptist Church, 2025 W.
