Bechthold, Elvina Kohnen age 87, of Buffalo, passed away Sat. March 25, 2017. She was born August 18, 1929 to Elvina Dressel Kohnen and John H. Kohnen near Hamel MN. School included a 1 room school. Jordan, Seward, South High graduating from Vocational HS in 1948. She worked at Robbinsdale Laundry at age 14, comptometer training for work at Archer Daniels, a degree in nursing, day nurse in U of M Pediatrics until her marriage to Garlend Bechthold from Waseca in 1955. While raising 3 children Elvina worked the night shift at Homewood nursing home and then Delano nursing home after moving to Buffalo from Robbinsdale. she ended her work career as night nurse at Anoka State hospital 20 some years before total retirement at 75. Elvina loved reading, gardening, crafts, creative sewing, cooking, company, dancing and having grandchildren over. An accomplished roller skater she rode her own motorcycle and after her marriage switched to horses Water aerobics in Buffalo for countless years, resulted in numerous friendships. Elvina's main love was people and helping them. Totally non-judgmental she was always there for everyone. Self reliant with a great sense of humor and loving heart she was a positive role model for family and friends. She will live forever in our hearts. Survived by her husband Garlend Bechthold, Son Craig Bechthold, daughter Jennifer (Dick) Clarey, son Curt (Carmen) Bechthold, grandchildren Elli, Brittany, Travis, Kristin, Grace. 3 great grandchildren, a sister Betty Lou Waszut, Godchild Wendy Barrett, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents John and Elvina Kohnen and brother Willis Kohnen, A memorial service will be held Thurs, March 30, 2017 at 11 AM, with visitation one hour prior, at Buffalo United Methodist Church, 600 8th St NW, Buffalo, with Pastor Bill Reinhart officiating.
