Root, James "Jim" age 91 passed away on March 13, 2017 in Buffalo, MN. Memorial service on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Buffalo. Visitation on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 4-7 PM at The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Born on November 25, 1925 in West St. Paul, MN to Charles and Helena (Guse) Root, Jim graduated from Humboldt High School in 1943. He served his country in the US Army during WWII and in 1949 married Betty Manteufel in St. Paul, MN. Jim received his undergraduate degree in education from Hamline University and his Masters from St. Cloud State University. He began his teaching experience at Benson High School before landing in the Robbinsdale School District in 1953. His duties at both Robbinsdale and Cooper High Schools included teacher, coach and athletic director. Upon retirement, he and Betty moved to Hackensack, MN and before settling in Buffalo. Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Preceded in death by his parents, siblings and granddaughter Maggie. Survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Root; children, Deborah and Steven Buchholz, Stephen and Teresa Root, Elizabeth and Roland Dehmer and Cynthia and Michael Windsor; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
