Beaton, Anita Segador passed away on March 11, 2017, after a hard fought battle with kidney disease. Survived by children, Jehanne Beaton Zirps and Andrew Beaton; son- and daughter-in-law, Tom Zirps and Anne Beaton; and grandchildren, Cole Beaton, Alma Beaton, Asa Zirps and Arlo Zirps. Preceded in death by parents, Encarnación Herrera Segador and Nicolas Segador; sisters, Placeres and Mary Segador and Mildred Citraro; and husband, James Monroe Beaton. Anita earned a PhD at the University of Minnesota and was an accomplished and well known leader in early childhood education. She served as the director of the Montessori Lab School and professor in early childhood education at the College of St. Catherine, taught in the Master of Education Program at Hamline University, helped start the Urban Teacher Program at Metropolitan State University, and served as an accreditor and director for the Minnesota Association for the Education of Young People. Her legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren, and through the commitment to high quality early childhood education throughout Minnesota. A celebration of Anita's life will take place on Sunday, March 26th at 11:00am at the Cremation Society of MN, Edina - 7110 France Ave S, Edina, MN 55435. Lunch and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to MNAEYC or University of Minnesota Foundation, Kidney and Pancreas Research Fund # 11964.
