Bohnsack, Dallas Age 78, of New Prague, died on Friday, Dec. 23. Survived by wife of 56 years, Joan; daughter, Deb (Bruce) Hastings of Lakeville; son, Brian (Patty) of St. Michael; cherished grandchildren, Justin, Amanda, Jeff Peterzen and Willow Hastings and sisters June Kohout, Lavonne Garoutte, Liz Kragthorpe. Dallas graduated from New Prague High School and the University of Minnesota's College of Agriculture. He was a member of the U of M marching band and Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Dallas farmed most of his life and served as Clerk of Helena Township followed by Scott County Commissioner for 12 years. He was most proud of his time and commitment to the University of Minnesota, serving on the Board of Regents from 1999 2011. He also was on the Scott County U of M Extension Committee and U of M Landscape Arboretum Board. His allegiance to the University even followed him in death as his body was donated to the Medical School for research and education. Community involvement played a large role in Dallas' life - New Prague Chamber of Commerce, Scott County Pork Producers and the New Prague Sportsman's Club to name just a few. In addition, he had been a long time member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Many times he was recognized for his endeavors including induction into the New Prague High School Hall of Fame with a Distinguished Alumni award and the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity Man of the Year honor. Dallas enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading, attending Gopher sporting events and music, in particular Drum and Bugle competitions and Dixieland Jazz. A memorial celebration will be held Friday, Jan. 20th, 2017 at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, New Prague. Visitation 2 hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to MN Landscape Arboretum, Alpha Gamma Rho Educational Foundation - Lambda Chapter, University of MN Band Alumni Society, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, or Donor's Choice.
