Marquit, Doris Grieser 84, of Minneapolis passed away on May 29, 2014 after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband, Erwin; her children, Lillian and Oskar; her grandchildren, Sarah, Maggie, Kyle and Jack; her great-grand- daughter, Noelani, and her in-laws, Laurie and Mads. After graduating from Carleton College and studying at the University of Chicago she received her PhD from the University of Minnesota in 1978, where she taught for many years as an adjunct faculty member in the Women's Studies and English Departments. She also had a long-term relationship with Humboldt University in Berlin, where she periodically lived and taught during the existence of the German Democratic Republic. A member of the Communist Party, the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, and the DFL, she fought for the freedom of all while lavishing love and attention on her family. She was also a lifelong Sherlock Holmes aficionado, relishing the certainty that observation, reason, and energy could solve all human problems. There will be a memorial to celebrate her life on July 3 at 7 pm, at the First Unitarian Society, 900 Mount Curve Avenue. All are welcome.
