Mikkola, Wayne Anton of New Brighton, formerly of St. Anthony Village. Born March 13, 1926 in Duluth, MN to Saima and Anton Mikkola. Died Dec. 4, 2016 from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Graduated from Clover Valley High School, Duluth and the University of MN Mpls. Following high school, he served two years in the Army Air Force. Employed at Honeywell for 40 years. Wayne loved to travel and his family enjoyed many camping trips throughout the U.S. In retirement he and his wife made many trips to Europe. He is survived by his wife, Gladys; children, Ann (Bill) Erbes, John (Kathy) Mikkola, and Jean (Stuart) Hanley; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Eileen Johnson. Wayne was a charter member of Nativity Lutheran Church and was on the first counsel. He was also involved in the St. Anthony Lions, Sister City Committee, Junior Achievement, St. Anthony Sports Boosters, Jaycees, and Salolampi Finnish Language Villages. Memorials preferred to Nativity Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be Thurs. Dec. 8, 11AM at Nativity Lutheran Church, 3312 Silver Lake Rd., St. Anthony, with visitation one hour prior.
