Skoro, Jean (Karlson) A beacon of compassion, patience, and humor to her family, friends, and students, Jean D. Skoro (Karlson) passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on November 26, 2016. Born in Minneapolis on June 7, 1951 to Alden and Dorothy Karlson, Jean grew up in Saint Louis Park, graduating from Saint Louis Park High School in 1969. After attending Colorado State University, she was enticed to return to the Twin Cities by her soon-to-be husband, Steve, whom she married on March 15, 1975. After several years of living in Oakland, California, Jean and her husband returned to the Lake Minnetonka area, where they raised a family. As she transitioned from her career in design to being a full-time parent, Jean devoted more and more time to volunteering in church, schools, and her community at large, revealing her true passion for teaching elementary school. She went on to earn a Master's degree in elementary education and enjoyed a 20-year career in the Mound Westonka school system. Jean is survived by her husband, Steve; her son, Robert (Ellen), daughter Elizabeth (Alvin); her grandchildren Ruby, Ivan, and Enrique; her mother, Dorothy, six brothers, and many cousins. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 10 at 10:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3745 Shoreline Dr., Wayzata, MN 55391. Memorials to Good Shepherd or the U of M Landscape Arboretum.
