Meyer, Fred Scott of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, passed away on October 27, 2016. A Memorial gathering celebrating Fred's life will take place from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 12th at the Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids. Remembrances by family and friends will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by a gathering at the family cabin on Otter Lake. Fred was born to Clarence & Vera Meyer in 1928 in Minneapolis where he was raised. Honored as the outstanding graduate of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1946, Fred then joined the U.S. Army and later attended the University of Minnesota, where he served as Business Editor for the Minnesota Daily. Fred married his high school sweetheart, the late Betty (Brurs) and they had four children. Fred and Betty divorced in 1973, but remained on friendly terms throughout their lives. In 1975, Fred married Lois (Loie) Beck. They had one daughter and were married for forty-one loving and adventure-filled years. Fred distinguished himself in the advertising profession, and later became a pioneer in the emerging field of "ideation". Early in his career, Fred and family lived in London, where Fred worked for an ad agency. Upon returning to Minnesota, they settled in Minneapolis, and Fred joined the Campbell Mithun advertising agency. He handled many high profile accounts, including Land O'Lakes, and the Minnesota Milk Foundation which inspired him to create the Aquatennial Milk Carton Boat races in 1971. This became an annual Aquatennial highlight for more than four decades. Fred became a student of creative process, and a national leader of the emerging field of "ideation". He formed Ideas to Go, Inc., a creative process consulting business with national and international clients that continues to thrive today. He was a valued mentor and source of wisdom to proteges who describe him as a brilliant and inspiring man whose smile and laugh were genuine, fun and infectious. In Fred's retirement, Fred and Loie moved to Grand Rapids, MN where Loie established her family therapy practice. This moved them closer to "the Cabin", his spiritual home on Otter Lake. Fred loved the sights and sounds of the lake, and he and Loie shared this special place with friends and family. In addition to his beloved children, Pam (Dwight) Jewson, Kim (Cliff) Greene, Ned (Jane Brashaw) Meyer, Kean (Patti) Meyer and Bryn (Graham Brayshaw) Meyer, Fred enjoyed his grandchildren, Cara (Ben), Jake (Sarah), Ian (Kristina), David, Eric (Catherine), Caitlin (Andy), Zack (Dee), Lizzie (Andy), Kate, Samantha and Hunter. And during the past summer, he joyously introduced his great grandchildren, Eliana, Tyler, Micah and Cameron to the wonders of "the Cabin" and fun of making s'mores over a campfire.
