Thompson, Barbara Ann Age 76, New Brighton, passed away Oct 18 after a long graceful fight with colon cancer. Barb was born Dec 6, 1939 in Kenosha, WI to Mildred and Ernest Bogue. Survived by husband and soul mate Lowell; daughters Deb (Tom) Sully and Diana (John) Van Meter, son Mark (Alison) Thompson and beloved grandchildren: Janet, Shannon, Erin and Ryan Sully; Brady and Riley Thompson; Colin, Devin and Austin Van Meter; brothers Don of Blue Island, Il and Dick of Sun City, AZ. Barb attended high school in Zion, Il and graduated from St Olaf College with majors in sociology and psychology. She was a social worker in Chicago before marrying college sweetheart Lowell. Barb was always busy: President of the Nativity Lutheran Church Women, St Anthony Mrs Jaycees, Midland Hills Country Club ladies club and active in Northwest Singing Seniors and PEO. She was co-owner and Vice President of the family business, Voyageur Art. Barb was happiest when with her kids, grandkids and Lowell. A vibrant beautiful lady with an unflappable spirit and an engaging smile, she was strong, humble, creative, and as her grandsons say "the best cook in the world". Her grandkids looked forward to her cookie baking/decorating parties even after college. She never missed an event involving her kids or grandkids. She taught her family how to live and how to love by her example. She showed us how wonderful love can be. Hugs were an important part of life with Barb. She always had a sparkle in her beautiful brown eyes. Barb enjoyed life: travel, golf, sewing, dining out, puzzles, couples softball, hosting parties, crafts, outings with friends, a glass of cabernet with Lowell. Friends are invited to help the family grieve and celebrate her life at a Visitation at 3:00 pm and Memorial Service at 4:00 pm on Monday Oct 24 at Nativity Lutheran Church, 3312 Silver Lake Road, St. Anthony, MN 55418. Refreshments and snacks to follow. Memorials preferred to American Cancer Society or St. Olaf College in lieu of flowers. Washburn-McReavy.com
