Welter, Mary Jo (MJ) age 49, of Shakopee, died of complications from Alzheimer's disease at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital on September 23, 2016. She was preceded in death by parents, Mary Ann and James; brother, Vincent; and foster parents, Delores and Paul Berry. Survived by sisters, Judy, Gail, Lynn, Clare, and Paula; brothers, Peter, Ben, Mike, and Ted; lifelong friend and foster sister, Connie. Mary Jo spent her childhood in Hawaii and Bloomington, then settled at a group home in Shakopee. The careful and loving care of the Thomas Allen staff enabled Mary Jo to live a long and happy life with Down Syndrome. We are forever thankful to all the people who cared for her. Mary Jo was proud of her various jobs - sorting, wrapping silverware in napkins - whatever assignment she was given. She loved being the center of attention, telling stories, singing songs, and playing kings-in-the-corner. Her moods passed liked clouds and sunshine, and her short life was a happly life. This past year of suffering with seizures and complications with medicines has ended. May the angels lead her into paradise, and like poor Lazarus, may she have eternal rest. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, October 8th at 11 AM, Church of the Assumption, 305 East 77th Street. Visitation one hour prior to Mass. Memorials may be directed to Prolife Across America.
