Hofstede, Albert J. Former Minneapolis 3rd Ward Alderman, Mayor of Minneapolis, Chair of Metropolitan Council and founding partner with the late Tom Kelm of North State Advisors, died September 3, 2016. Survived by his loving wife, Emma; daughter, Emily and her husband Michael, and their children Croix and Iris; son, Albert Jr. and his wife Kim, and their children Riley, Mason and Mackenzie; Also survived by sisters, Carol (Jim) Kostick and Mary (Mike) Marquez, of CA; brothers, Tony (Diane), and John, of Minneapolis; his dear friends and colleagues at North State include, Michele, Kerry, Andy K., Andy P. Preceding Al in death were his wife, Barbara; parents, Albert & Florence. Al's many activities included service to the Boards of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese and the University of St. Thomas. He was co-founder of Catholic Eldercare along with the late Sister Ruth Rolland OP who also became a beloved member of the Hofstede family. Al spent a wonderful life enjoying his family, cabin time, fly fishing, reading and his good work for our city. Memorial service 1:00 pm Friday, September 9, 2016 at The Basilica of Saint Mary (88 N 17th St. Minneapolis). Visiting time begins at 12:00 pm until the time of service.
