Ellison, John Smith age 92 of Monticello passed away peacefully on Thursday July 28, 2016 in New Hope. Visitation will be Tuesday August 2, 2016 from 9 am to 11 am at Community United Methodist Church, 9225 Jason Avenue NE, Monticello. The funeral service will follow at 11 am. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. John was born in Monticello, MN on June 30, 1924 to Dr. Frank E. Ellison and Caroline Smith Ellison. He served in the US Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart for his wounds, a Bronze Star, and a combat infantryman badge. John worked as a forester for the US Forest Service most of his life. John was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Everette. John is survived by a nephew Mark (Christine) Ellison; niece Carol (Larry) Schnack; sister-in-law Audrey Ellison; great nephew Michael Schnack; and great niece Carley Schnack.
