Carpenter, Thomas Kimberly Thomas was born on Mar- ch 18, 1933 in Washing- ton D.C., and died at his home in Buffalo, Wyoming on May 26, 2014. He re ceived his education at the Blake and Hotchkiss schools and attended Yale Univer- sity followed by 4 years in the U.S. Coast Guard. After several years at the family lumber company; interest- ed in becoming an auctioneer, Tom attend the Reppert School of Auctioneering at Christy's and the Certified Auctioneer Institute at Indiana University. Tom became an Independent Real Estate Broker, Appraiser, Advisor and Auctioneer. He is survived by his wife, Nicky of Wayzata; daughter, Virginia Carpenter of Wayzata, son George Carpenter, of Buffalo, WY, daughter in law, Janet Carpenter, St. Louis Park, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Geraldine and Leonard Carpenter; one daughter, Caroline Carpenter; one son, James Carpenter; and a sister, Nina Masek. His grandfather, was one of the founding members of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, now the Minnesota Orchestra and Tom served on the Board from 1971-1977. Throughout his adult life, Tom carried on the family tradition of philanthropy; donating his auctioneering and volunteer services to countless charities and arts organizations. He was a founder of ECHO, a worldwide provider of seeds, bringing food to millions of the world's hungry. Through World Serve he provided fresh drinking water to many poverty stricken areas in Africa by drilling wells. He was proud of his involvement in Berea College; a non-tuition under- graduate program for academ- ically promising students from Appalachia. Tom's local involvement included Trustee of Breck School, founding member Hamline University Law School, Church Warden, bank founder and director and many service organizations in the Twin Cities, Naples, Florida and Buffalo, Wyoming. Tom's interests were varied and he and Nicky enjoyed hunting, sailing, boating around the Great Lakes and traveling to places most people would choose not to visit in search of adventure and for their respective projects. A memorial service will be held June 19, 2014 at Wayzata Community Church, 125 East Wayzata Boulevard, Wayzata at 11 AM (with a reception immed- iately following the service).
