Hickman, Carl G. age 99, of Champlin, was born in Mpls and grew up in the "Nordeast" section. After graduating from high school, Carl worked as a musician playing trumpet in a dance band and singing with the Knights of Note quartet. Carl met his wife Dorothy who was also a singer at this time and they married in 1936. During WWII Carl taught aerobatics to military pilots at a training base near Hibbing, MN and he later flew C-54 transports in the South Pacific. After the war Carl and Dorothy settled in Champlin and he became a regional sales manager for the Glidden Paint Company, a job he held until he retired. After Dorothy passed away, Carl inherited a family when he married Stella in 1998. Carl enjoyed flying, golfing, working on his lawn and house, and bringing joy to others. Carl lived a life of service to others and was active in his church and the community and was once mayor of Champlin. He is survived by his God-daughters, Karen, Pixie and Jennifer; Stella’s family and the many friends and neighbors whose lives he has touched. Carl was strong in his faith and committed his life to following Christ. Memorial services Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Anglican Church, 1415 6th Ave S., Anoka.
