Brauer, Donald George 84, a man of great faith, futurist, environmentalist, community planner, mentor and entrepreneur, passed away February 28, 2014 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. At Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Road, Edina, visitations will be Monday, March 3 from 5-7 pm and Tuesday, March 4 at 11 am prior to a 12 noon service of life. Don was born November 24, 1929 in Clinton, IA to Alvin P. and Mildred R. (King) Brauer, the oldest of three children. After attending Clinton Junior college, he achieved a Civil Engineering degree from Iowa State University and a masters of Public Administration from University of Minnesota. He was a Special Weapons Officer in the US Air Force and reserves. He founded Brauer and Associates and later The Brauer Group that together envisioned and defined spaces and projects including the western Minneapolis suburbs. He was a leader receiving life accomplishments from many National professional associations and mentored 20 years at the U of Mn Humphrey Institute. Don was a proud 50 year Rotarian, Paul Harris Fellow, a past Edina club president, first Foundation chair as well as a key Eden Prairie club formation catalyst. Don was a member of Normandale Lutheran as well as chair or director of many Minnesota or community based foundations and charities. He is survived by his wife, Gudrun Brauer of 58 years; three children, Mark (Beth), Sonja Milstead (Steven Sharp) and Susan (Daniel) Mickelberg; three grandchildren, Daniel (Savanna) Brauer, David Brauer, Laura Brauer; and one great-grandchild, Harriet Brauer; along with his brother, William (Gladys) Brauer and sister-in-law, Doris Koenen (Marvin); and many nieces and nephews.
