Voves, Robert Allan A dedicated family man, loving friend and life long learner, died peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer's on January 31st, 2014. He was born on March 6th, 1930 in Wahpeton, North Dakota, the youngest son of Mattie and Martin Charles Voves I. After graduating from Wahpeton High School in 1948, he spent two years studying both at the State's School of Science in Wahpeton and Hamline in St. Paul. While at Hamline, he met his wife-to-be, Juanita Meuwissen and was married on May 12, 1951 in Cologne, MN. In 1950, he joined the U.S. Army serving in the 7th infantry regiment, 3rd division in Korea. After returning from Korea, he met his one year old child Brad Voves. He lived at the University Village student housing while he completed his B.A. in education and additional graduate work at the U of MN, Twin Cities campus. During this time, his son, Scott Voves (1955), and daughter, Susan Voves (1958), were born. The family moved to New Ulm, MN in 1959 where Robert began a 34 year teaching/coaching career. He taught Latin and Phy Ed, Coaching wrestling and other sports. During the 1980s he became more active in community theater performing in many productions with the Pioneer Players. In 2000, Robert and Juanita moved back to the Twin Cities to be close to their children. He remained active his entire life and could be seen, even in his early 80s, rollerblading around Lake Harriet and in the Metrodome during the winter. He also enjoyed dancing, singing, and acting, having performed with the Fogies Follies. Robert is survived by wife Juanita, son, Brad(Joanne), six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his three sisters, two brothers and children Scott and Susan. A celebration of his life will be held at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, Edina Chapel, 7110 France Avenue S., Edina, MN 55435.
