Brandt, Michael Frederick age 51, of Eden Prairie, MN died peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2013. Born on September 13, 1962 in Dover, DE, Michael grew up in Ridgely, MD and Hickman, CA. He graduated from Hughson HS and earned his BS in Ag Econ from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He completed an MBA in Finance at the Wharton School of Business. As a senior executive for the Gores Group, a private equity firm based in Los Angeles, Michael was a managing director for companies in Europe and the US. He previously worked for Valspar and Cargill. He was involved at church and an avid supporter of his son's school and sports activities. He loved travel, the mountains and great expanses of farmland. From the time he was diagnosed with ALS, Michael dedicated himself to raising money to support research for a cure and heightening public awareness of the disease. He was honored to present the Lou Gehrig's speech at Target Field for 3 years. With the support of family, friends, and colleagues around the world, he spearheaded an ALS fund raising campaign that generated over $250,000 in 2 years. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Barb Brandt; his sons, Erik (18), Joe (16) and dog Rex; father, Heinrich Brandt; siblings, Henry, Carol, and Mark. He was predeceased by mother, Barbara. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13 from 4-7 PM at Prairie Lutheran Church , 11000 Blossom Road, Eden Prairie, MN 55347. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 14 at 1 PM at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6901 Normandale Road, Edina MN 55435.
